Meet Dr. Kiley Hutchinson: Pediatric Occupational Therapist Bringing Play-Based Care to Centerpointe

Centerpointe for Children is excited to welcome Dr. Kiley Hutchinson, OTD, OTR/L, to our pediatric occupational therapy team. Kiley brings a thoughtful, child-centered approach to occupational therapy, with a particular passion for helping children build confidence, independence, self-regulation, motor planning skills, and participation through meaningful play.

For families looking for pediatric occupational therapy in Irvine and Orange County, finding a therapist who understands that children learn and develop in different ways is important. Kiley's approach emphasizes curiosity, creativity, connection, and play while incorporating advanced training in Ayres Sensory Integration®.

A Passion for Helping Children Through Meaningful Play

At the heart of Kiley's approach is a simple but powerful idea: children can develop important skills while doing activities that are meaningful and engaging to them.

As an occupational therapist, Kiley works to help children develop the foundational skills they need to participate more successfully in everyday life. Her approach incorporates child-led activities that encourage children to explore, interact, problem-solve, and build confidence.

Rather than viewing play as separate from therapy, Kiley recognizes that play can provide a meaningful context for developing motor, sensory, social, and self-regulation skills.

Specialized Training in Ayres Sensory Integration®

Kiley has completed advanced training in Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) and is passionate about helping children develop the sensory and motor foundations needed for participation in daily activities.

Sensory integration is an important area of pediatric occupational therapy because children process and respond to sensory information in different ways. Supporting sensory-motor development can help children participate more comfortably and effectively in activities such as play, school, social interaction, and daily routines.

At Centerpointe for Children, our team is committed to evidence-based pediatric therapy and creating opportunities for children to develop through meaningful sensory-motor experiences.

Supporting Self-Regulation, Motor Planning, and Social Participation

Kiley's clinical interests include helping children develop self-regulation, motor planning, social participation, and confidence.

These skills can affect many aspects of a child's daily life. A child may have difficulty organizing their body for a new movement, transitioning between activities, participating in a group, or managing sensory information in a busy environment.

Occupational therapy can provide children with opportunities to practice these skills in ways that are motivating and developmentally appropriate.

Kiley's emphasis on engaging, child-led activities allows therapy to be adapted around the individual child rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

A Perspective Shaped by Lived Experience

Kiley identifies as a neurodivergent occupational therapist and brings that lived experience to her work with children and families. She values the different ways children experience, communicate, and interact with the world.

This perspective contributes to her goal of creating a therapeutic environment where children feel understood, supported, and empowered.

For families navigating developmental differences, having a therapist who recognizes that every child has a unique way of experiencing the world can be particularly meaningful. Kiley's approach focuses on celebrating individual strengths while helping children develop skills that support greater participation and independence.

Education and Professional Training

Kiley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton before completing her Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree at Keck Graduate Institute.

Her background in psychology, doctoral-level occupational therapy education, and advanced training in Ayres Sensory Integration provide a strong foundation for her work with children.

Combined with her passion for play-based intervention, this training allows Kiley to approach pediatric occupational therapy from both a developmental and individualized perspective.

Getting to Know Kiley Outside the Clinic

While Kiley is passionate about pediatric occupational therapy, she also enjoys spending time outside the clinic. She loves being in nature, trying new foods, and making memories with family and friends.

She also shares her home life with her golden retriever, Maizie.

These personal interests reflect some of the same qualities she brings to her clinical work: curiosity, connection, exploration, and finding joy in everyday experiences.
