Meet Amy Ukleja – Helping Children Thrive Through Sensory Integration in Irvine, CA

Hi, I’m Elissa, an occupational therapist at Centerpointe for Children in Irvine, CA. Every day I come to work, I get to do something pretty special—help children turn challenges into achievements through play.

What My Day Looks Like

No two days are ever the same, and that’s one of the things I love most about my role.

My sessions are designed around each child’s individual needs. Some children are working on fine motor skills like handwriting or dressing, while others are building coordination, sensory processing, or social participation.

At Centerpointe, we believe therapy should feel like a child’s “best day ever.” That means we’re constantly creating fun, engaging activities that also target critical developmental goals.

Turning Play Into Progress

One of the most powerful tools we use is play. Through climbing, swinging, balancing, and interactive games, children develop:

  • Motor planning and coordination
  • Emotional regulation
  • Social interaction skills
  • Independence in daily activities

These aren’t just therapy exercises—they’re real-life skills that help children succeed in school, at home, and in their community.

The Power of Sensory Integration

Much of my work focuses on sensory integration, which is essential for helping children process and respond to their environment effectively. When children can better understand their bodies and surroundings, they gain confidence and independence.

At Centerpointe, we follow a data-driven, evidence-based model to ensure every child receives personalized, effective care.

Collaboration Is Key

One of the things that sets our team apart is how closely we collaborate. Our therapists work together to create comprehensive care plans that support the whole child—not just one specific challenge.

We also collaborate with parents, caregivers, and even schools when needed to ensure consistency and success across all environments.

Why I Chose Centerpointe for Children

I chose to work at Centerpointe because of its reputation as an internationally recognized pediatric therapy practice and research center in Ayres Sensory Integration®.

Being part of a team that values innovation, education, and meaningful outcomes allows me to continually grow as a therapist while providing the highest level of care to the families we serve.

Supporting Irvine Families Every Step of the Way

If you’re a parent in Irvine or surrounding areas, you’re not alone—and support is available. Whether your child needs help with sensory processing, motor skills, or daily routines, we’re here to help them thrive.

For me, the most rewarding part of my job is seeing a child light up when they realize, “I can do this.” That moment never gets old.
